Nicki Minaj is set to executive produce and appear in a scripted comedy series for ABC Family based on the stars immigration from Trinidad to New York with her family, as well as her life growing up in Queens.
Apparently Minaj’s current empire is not vast enough, her brand covers a fashion line, multiple perfumes, make up, acting, drinks, electronics, and countless endorsements. All this amongst her primary rap career which she has been the top of since she first dropped.
With never ending features on songs, documentaries, interviews, tours, judging American Idol, music videos and tabloid controversy, it seems as though this queen of everything can’t do any wrong in continuing to build her legacy.
The single camera show will follow Minaj’s personal and musical evolution that lead to her eventual rise to stardom in the 1990’s.
The currently untitled half-hour comedy series is scheduled to begin shooting in Queens this winter, although Minaj is apparently still searching for an actress to play her younger alter ego. Kate Angelo, better known for her work on “Will and Grace” and the Cameron Diaz film “Sex Tape,” will write the pilot.
For those unsure of Minaj’s credentials, she studied acting at Manhattan’s prestigious LaGuardia High School and was originally keen to pursue acting before the launch of her successful music career. The rapper previously had a small role in ‘The Other Woman’ last year and is preparing to feature in ‘Barbershop 3’ later next year.
“Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” said ABC Family’s EVP Programming and Development Karey Burke. “Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”
“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said Minaj. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
Is there nothing Nicki Minaj can’t do?
