Marvel have done well in the past to include the LGBT community within their comics, with gay Superhero’s that include Iceman, Northstar and Mystique. But this is the first to lead a Marvel movie!
Deadpool director Tim Miller stated that the movie version of the character Deadpool will be pansexual! This will be the first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to not only be an openly queer hero, but a queer lead!
This is a huge win for the gay community, with much hype around the movie it is expected to do exceedingly well at the box office, and we’re definitely going to be booking our tickets now!
The characters sexuality was first confirmed as omnisexual by comic book writer Gerry Dugan via Twitter in 2013. Later, when questioned on the heroes sexuality, Co-Creator Fabian Nicieza stated “Deadpool is whatever sexual inclination his brain tells him he is in THAT moment. And then the moment passes. He is NO sex and ALL sexes. He is yours and everyone else’s. So not dismissive, but rather the epitome of inclusive.”
Deadpool has been in relationships with men, women, and non-binary people throughout the comics so we’re glad the movie will stay true to the character. With Ryan Reynolds as the lead, his charming personality is sure to do the hero justice.
“Can you talk about the tantalizing fireside photo that you guys put out. Does this mean it will be a very hypersexualized Deadpool?
Miller: Pansexual! I want that quoted. Pansexual Deadpool.
Reynolds: There is some sexuality in this movie for sure. You kinda think you have moments when you’re shooting where you think, “This is, uh, a little excessive. This is a comic book movie. Are we gonna get away with this?” But so far so good. Studio hasn’t crushed us with anything. They were here yesterday, they were thrilled, they saw some cut footage and so far so good. We did a photo shoot for an entire day of just different, completely insane things that Deadpool is doing and there’s a lot more to come. They’ll be slowly released.”
