It’s January 1st! A new year, and a new soundtrack to go with it. We’re hopeful 2016 will be a great year for music, and as it stands today is Friday so here’s your #FeelGoodFriday playlist!
To celebrate the start of the new year we’ve chosen our top 10 new artists we’re sure are to blow up this year! Alongside the artists we’ve selected the track that best showcases their work.
1. Breathe Life – Jack Garrett
British singer Jack Garrett first started his music career in 2005 as a participant in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest where he finished 8th. After a few EP’s over the following years he is gearing up to release his debut album this year. His music is part soulful and part boppy, we’re loving it.
2. 22 – Gavin James
Irish singer-songwriter Gavin James had a stellar year in 2015 in Ireland, his debut album reached number 5, and he supported Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith on tour. His voice is enchantingly beautiful and we’re sure this will be his year to transition into popular music culture.
3. Nobody Cares – LÉON
An import from Sweden the 21-year-old singer is making waves with her catchy and upbeat singles, but we can’t take the credit for discovering her. Katy Perry tweeted out her first single calling her “one to watch” and if the quality of her music stays this great we’re sure her album will sell well.
4. Secrets – Jacob Whitesides
Only just 18 years-old Whitesides is hitting the scene fresh and ready. After a small appearance on the US X Factor and a healthy online presence with his YouTube covers he has finally released some original material, and it’s pretty good. As well as his catchy music he is also totally cute.
5. Live Young Die Free – FLETCHER
Apparently all-caps is the way to go in 2016 as evidenced by many of the new comers, perhaps its a way to catch out attention in the new age of music streaming. FLETCHER started bubbling under the surface of pop in late 2015 with celeb fans Chloe Moretz and Perez Hilton. Her music is fun, catchy and uplifting.
6. Borrowed Time – Frances
Frances is one of the most promising new artists i the UK, she’s selling out venues thanks to her catchy songs. She’s also totally hilarious and relatable on social media, and truly loving and appreciating her new found success. Another free-spirit similar to Lorde we’re rooting for her success.
7. Charlemagne – Blossoms
Making it onto the lists of BBC Sound of 2016, MTV Brand New and Spotify for their artists to watch lists is not an easy feat but this Manchester band has achieved it. They’re headlining their own tour and have been performing stateside. Their single Charlemagne is so funky and catchy, we have this one on repeat.
8. Boy – Anne-Marie
This Brit is infusing R&B, hip-hop and pop to cover her bases with her catchy and cool music. We can totally dance around and feel ourselves to her music, now we just need more of it. Also, she’s so beautiful with an edgy fashion sense, we’d love to visit a gig but they’re sold out!
9. Hurt Me – Låpsley
Låpsley recorded her first EP in her bedroom, and has since released another blowing up Soundcloud. Her music has done well on the UK indie charts but with her first full debut album expected to be released this year we’re sure you’ll be hearing more of this go-getter. Her electro music is easy listening but also sentimental.
10. Paul – Girl Band
An avant-post-punk band from Ireland, their music is chaotic and messy, but we love a bit of rebellion. This is one for releasing your anger, or hitting the gym. Perhaps the bedroom if that’s what you’re into. A total headbanger.
