The drama has started already, and after tears on the runway we’re ready for anything this week!
We jump right into it this episode with designers already at each others throats in the apartments. We soon get into the challenge, design an outfit for a fashion icon!
Heidi brings out the model’s, showing the drama isn’t over yet; the winner of the previous challenge has the pick of any of the models and who to send home!
Tim takes the designers to Toys R Us *promo* on Times Square to meet the fashion icon…BARBIE! The challenge is to create both a life-sized and miniature outfit for the MyScene *promo* Barbie doll.
Alongside out regular three judges was guest judge Lily Martinez.
The following looks are ranked from my personal best to worst:
Chloe stole the show again this week, following her previous win! Her dress was perfectly designed for both the full sized product and for a doll. With beautiful details it was the perfect mix of cute and sassy.
Nick had a cool, hip idea for a doll full of personality and spunk. His garment was well thought out and put together with great patterns and shape. It was very Barbie without being done before.
Santino worked well with colour and texture this week. He made a flirty little dress with incredible detail and a beautiful fit.
Andrae had a great vision, but the execution was not quite there. While I loved the bouffant skirt, it seems to hang a little low. That said it was a strong look overall!
Daniel F had another strong look. The dress was beautiful and crafted very well. It was a sophisticated, simple dress, but not show-stopping.
Zulema put forward a cute look. The colour and fabric were stunning but the cut was a little overly complicated, although the sheer back was pleasant.
Diana definitely had an…interesting look. It seemed quite Tokyo Barbie, but thats not an entirely bad thing. The stiffness of the skirt worked well, making it look truly toy-like and the hood of the jacket was a cute touch.
Kara made a decent attempt, and while the look was appropriate, I feel like i’ve seen this Barbie before. It looks like starter pack Barbie, rather than one young girls are excited for.
Emmett‘s Barbie look was cute. The colour and pattern were both fun, and the drop waist was an interesting addition. The only downfall is that it kinda looked like ‘Hippie Barbie’ over cool Barbie.
Guadalope‘s dress, despite her calling it ‘cute’ and ‘fun’, was neither. Parts of the outfit i.e. the hem of the skirt, and the rose were cute but the colour and material of the dress itself was off, and the shawl added nothing.
Marla‘s outfit was all kinds of wrong. It didn’t look youthful at all, but the cut was too risqué to be matronly so it didn’t fit anywhere. The colour was off, the pattern was messy and the frilly back was diabolical.
Raymundo completely missed the mark this week. His Barbie looked like a 60’s version of the doll. The overall look was not remotely flattering, fun or interesting.
Daniel was boring once again. Somehow he has yet to be called out on his lacklustre aesthetic but I have him clocked. The dress colour was dull and the cut was plain.
Note: Apologies for the poor photo quality, this was long before HD.
