We’re really getting into it now, the designers aren’t holding back with one another, or the judges, throw a Hilton into the mix and we’re sure to get an exciting episode.
Heidi gives the newest challenge, to design a party dress for a young American socialite… Nicky Hilton! Okay, she’s not Paris, but she’s the more fashionable of the two in all honesty!
Heidi invited the designers to a Hilton party where Nicky entered in a sweater and jeans before exclaiming “I love fashion!”, sure girl. The quote of the night came from Heidi as she said: “let’s pop some bottles!”
Reminiscent of last years challenge, the designers worked their pitch to Nicky one after the other with some doing noticeably better than other, Santino even presented his business card to her.
Guest judge and client Nicky Hilton joined the regular three judges. Her now discontinued fashion line Chick got its own shoutout *promo*.
The following looks are ranked from my personal best to worst:
Kara debut a super strong look this week. The fabric was sexy, and the cut was sexy and chic. The uneven hem line made the piece more interesting and attention-grabbing, perfect for a socialite.
Nick had a strong look this week. The colour and material were great, and the cut of the dress was fun with great movement in the skirt. The little extra design on the shoulders were a nice addition, and the back was cool but the patchy way he put material together was off-putting.
Chloe put forward a simple, sleek, chic mini dress. The colour was bold, the length was flirty and the neckline was sexy, but not trashy. The plaited back of the dress was a nice touch. The whole ensemble fit the body well.
Zulema is showing herself to be a worthy competitor with another strong look. The neckline of the piece was sext and daring while the working of the dress was delicate. Overall, the length of the garment balanced out the cleavage-heavy top.
Santino displayed a good effort, the colour and style of dress was cute and youthful, and while the single twisted strap was fun, the actual bodice seemed a little overly-complicated. The judges loved it but again, 2005.
Andrae’s dress was beautiful this week. While we can’t quite tell the feel of the material, the slight glitter to it was perfect for its intended wearer. The straps and back were designed interestingly and the slight run-in on the waist was slimming.
Daniel was not boring for once! The fit was perfect and the fabric and layering of material was noteworthy. The overall look was just not quite young enough for Nicky.
Diana‘s dress was fun. The bling straps were cute, and the flowy skirt was fun and almost Madonna-reminiscent. While there were strong concepts presents the actual garment was a little lacking.
Emmett‘s dress was kind of boring. The bust was ill-thought out and the straps were clunky. The style of the garment wasn’t sexy, vibrant or fun.
Marla really shot herself in the foot when she took a little too much inspiration from an example photograph provided. She even copied the models styling from her competitor.
Guadalope really missed the mark on who she was designing for. There was a lack of sophistication about the piece. It was overly-complicated and messy, and the pink sleeve was the proverbial cherry on top of the turd.
Note: Apologies for the poor photo quality, this was long before HD.
